Stage 3 was the first loop stage for this years Dakar giving the assistance teams a break from moving the bivouac setup. Racers started right at the bivouac with the top bike riders retrieving their bikes from Parc Ferme for the second half of the super marathon. This stage reached the highest elevation of the rally at 1400km roughly 5000 feet. Being that they started and finished at sea level, there was a lot of elevation change during the stage.
Read MoreToday racers had an unusual later start. Casey and Sean woke up around 7:00am in no rush with a Bivouac leave time of 9:30am. Casey opted for a protein shake while Sean headed over to the catered bivouac meal.
Read MoreStage 1 began with an early wake up to hit the road. The stage started with a 195 km liaison to the start of the special. Drivers got in the cars around 7:30am and started making their way north out of Jeddah.
